2016 Annual Meeting

September 8, 2016

Dear Beta Delta Members:

The Beta Delta Chapter of Beta Phi Mu will be holding our 2016 Annual Meeting on Thursday, October 20th at 7:00 PM in Baldy 553 on the North Campus of the University at Buffalo.

In response to the input received from our recent survey of the membership, we have made arrangements to have members not located in the Western New York (WNY) region attend the meeting via Skype. So, even if you’re not located in the WNY area, you can still be part of this meeting!

If you wish to participate in the meeting via Skype, please e-mail your Skype information to Brenda Battleson White at blb@buffalo.edu. If you plan to attend in person, please email Brenda as well, to ensure that we have a large enough room for the meeting.

The meeting will feature the announcement of the election results for chapter board officers for 2017. We will also review the results of the recent membership survey we conducted and discuss some exciting plans for the coming year.

The Chapter Board is working hard to establish a dynamic and exciting chapter but we can’t do that without you so we hope you can attend and participate in this meeting on October 20th.

Jim Tammaro
President, Beta Phi Mu – Beta Delta Chapter

Survey Results

Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill out the recent survey sent to BPM membership.  We got great responses, and hope to use the feedback to plan for future events and to encourage other BPM members to serve on the eboard!  Here, in brief, are some of the survey results.

  • Nearly 75% of respondents indicated some interest in collaborating with other Beta Phi Mu members
  • Email was a clear winner for communications with 96.55% of members asking for this type of communication
  • 29 members responded; 27 updated their contact info
  • Top three topics of research topics included technology, information literacy instruction, and budget/money-saving strategies
  • Top three professional development requests were networking/mentorship, speakers and skill shares
  • Top three initiative for BPM were virtual skill-shares, speaker series, and librarians helping librarians on special projects
  • Goals for 2017
  • Board will look into hosting 1 speaker, 1-2 workshops/skill-shares, and organizing a get-together at NYLA for New York State Beta Phi Mu members
  • For networking purposes, the field of librarianship each member works in will be added to the membership list

If you are interested in serving on the eboard, please contact the board.  Instructions can be found here.

Call for Nominations

Call for Nominations

For the Board of Officers for the Beta Delta Chapter of Beta Phi Mu

As per Article X of the Beta Delta Chapter Bylaws, it is time to call for nominations for elected offices on the Chapter’s Board of Officers. Article X states:

Nominations for the officers and three directors shall be made by a committee appointed by the president. Additional nominations may be made from the floor prior to the election. One director shall be nominated and elected from among the newly inducted members at the time of election.

The Nominations Committee is presently composed of the current Board and all positions on the Board are up for election.  Those positions include: President, Vice-President/President-elect, Secretary/Treasurer and four Directors. Because of a change to a calendar fiscal year, we did not hold elections in 2015, so if at all possible, at least one director should be nominated from the most recent 2 classes of inductees (2014 and 2015).

In view of the above, nominations will accepted until Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016 at 5:00 PM Eastern  The names of the individuals nominated for office will then be distributed with any statements by the candidates via the Chapter’s Listserv.  The election will take place, via online ballot, from Sept. 26, 2016 through Oct. 10, 2016 at 5:00pm. An email link to the electronic ballot will be provided. I am attaching a list of the position descriptions for your reference.

Given our recent survey of the membership and the valuable feedback you have provided, the Beta Delta Chapter of Beta Phi Mu is looking to accomplish a great deal in the coming year. The NominationsCommittee is looking for a few good officers to lead the Chapter and “set the bar high”. Therefore, please consider nominating yourself or someone else to run for one of our chapter offices.  Please ensure the person you are nominating WANTS to be nominated. 🙂

A brief bio should accompany the e-mail message containing the nomination.  If you would like to nominate yourself or someone else, please send an e-mail message with that information to blb@buffalo.edu by the Sept. 22nd  deadline.  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Brenda at the email provided.
